  • Starting School

Before starting school, we are taking a step towards a period where your child begins to open up more to the environment, becoming more aware of their inner richness. They now realize that they are not limited to just their family, siblings, and themselves, but that there are others in the world. The school adjustment process may vary for each child depending on factors such as family structure, personality, and upbringing. It is natural for children to experience difficulties such as not liking school, not wanting to go, or separation anxiety during this process.

To facilitate your child's adaptation to school, you can consider the following suggestions:

  • Allow your child to visit and familiarize themselves with the school before starting.
  • Provide reassurance to your child by staying calm. Your child may become anxious if they sense your anxiety.
  • Keep farewells short when arriving at school. Even if your child appears upset, leave promptly.
  • Explain to your child that their tears will not change anything if they cry.
  • Support self-care skills such as cleanliness and toilet habits at school.
  • After school, talk to your child, but do not push them, and allow them to rest.
  • Avoid making threats or plans in front of your child at home.
  • Ensure your child attends school regularly.
  • Help your child prepare their clothes the night before to ease morning preparations.
  • Pay attention to sleep patterns; regular sleep is essential for school adjustment.

Remember, consistency and support from the family are crucial during the school adjustment process. Inconsistent behaviors or a child's reluctance can lead to school phobia in the future. Being firm and persistent about attending school is important for your child's future success.
