We conduct nature activities for our children in the Binbir Çiçek Garden. Details of these beautiful days, where we compost, plant seedlings, and explore the surrounding fields, are provided below.
COMPOST MAKING IN BINBIR ÇİÇEK GARDEN
Our activity begins with making compost with the children. Composting is both fun and educational. It not only teaches children about soil formation but also helps them understand the importance of natural fertilizers in life. We gather around the designated area for composting and start layering the accumulated waste onto the compost pile: kitchen scraps, grass, animal manure, dry leaves, sawdust, paper, cardboard. It's important for these two materials to come together in the right proportions for the decomposition and breakdown process to begin.
Growing Our Seedlings
Planting seedlings is one of the enjoyable activities of the day. After covering the compost pile, we move to the seedling planting area with the children. Any child who wishes can plant tomato, pepper, and cucumber seedlings in the prepared soil. Planting their own seedlings gives children a wonderful opportunity to connect with the soil.
DO IT YOURSELF AT HOME
Observing the growth of plants in the garden can encourage children to ask questions: Why do plants need sunlight? How do plants absorb water? Why are worms good for plants? Through the concepts learned during gardening activities, children develop a deep respect for our planet and take responsibility for its preservation. The joy they experience while eating the plants they grew themselves is priceless.
